I had an inate interest in form from a young age, making still Life collages & paper mache sculptures often incorporating Vessels as Mum was a Ceramics dealer so our home was filled with objects that would come & go.
After graduating I moved to London to persue Editorial Illustration which lead onto special FX Painting in the Film Industry & Painting puppets for Spitting Image. We relocated to York from London 24 years ago to raise our young family & be nearer both sets of parents.
CLAY took over as a primary medium during the pandemic, my motivation is to impart a sense of energy, of ideas forming like a line from a poem, within the body of her work.
Home is a busy creative one where I move between spaces inside through Winter for building & glazing then outside in warmer months where firing happens in the old bike shed in the yard. With magpie tendenancies, gathered papers & card are repurposed to create paper vessels on the big dining table with drawings & ideas playing out. This Portable nature of working & switching between mediums suits well, I like the transient nature.
